Mobile Surfing: Latest Way to Surf

Mobile internet use is growing while the number of people going online via a PC is slowing, analyst firm Nielsen Online has found.

Some 7.3m people accessed the net via their mobile phones, during the second and third quarters of 2008.

No surprisingly, more and more people are surfing on the go. I can definitely identify with this since I got my 3G phone solely for this purpose. Having access to the web at my fingertip makes me feel mighty invincible especially when I can look up or check up something that just caught my attention.

Now what I feel will be another redefining factor would be the prevalence of netbooks. It seems as though consumers’ demand for netbooks is increasing quickly. The problem with surfing on the handphone would be the inherent lack of processing power. Even with the best specification, most microprocessor within our cellphone was never meant to be a replacement for a personal computer. Many times, I could not load high resolution pictures or java applets. This is where the netbook fits in nicely.

With sufficient crunching power and amazing portability, the netbook allows even the most heavily embedded webpage to be viewed. I believe it won’t be too far away where we will carry a netbook around like our handphone.

Technology never cease to amaze me!

    >> In my case, the main problem with surfing on a mobile phone is the size of the screen.
This is okay to have a brief look on the headlines of my favourite online newspapers but for all the rest it soon becomes uncomfortable.

This is the reason why I plan to purchase eeepc 901 or something quite similar (around 12 Go of hard drive, 10″” screen, 3 hours or more for batteries autonomy, around 2 lbs, that’s just enough for me to get connected during the transportation (bus, tube, etc.)

For work I have a “traditional” laptop from MSI.
