FIA = Ferrari International Assistance…Part.. I lost count

Today’s Japanese F1 Grand Prix has thrown up another amazing twist to this season’s driver’s championship race! Toro Rosso driver Sebastien Bourdais was penalized for the collision with Felipe Massa when he exited from his second pit stop.

Here is the snippet of the report:

Felipe Massa was promoted to seventh place in the Japanese Grand Prix after Sebastien Bourdais was penalised for a clash with the Brazilian.

Felipe Massa’s deficit to F1 world championship leader Lewis Hamilton shrank by a further point in the hour after the Japanese Grand Prix, when race stewards decided to penalise Sebastien Bourdais for a collision with the Brazilian.

While it appeared that Massa could have been equally to blame for the incident, which occurred as Bourdais rejoined from his final pit-stop at the same time as Massa approached turn one, the Ferrari was the one to spin, costing the Brazilian vital seconds if not places.

This is the video of the incident

Here are the obvious points:

1) Sebastian Bourdais was keeping his own racing line without purposely driving wide going into the turn

2) Felipe Massa was driving round from the outside and could see Bourdais’s track position clearly

Was Felipe Massa expecting Bourdais to drive onto the grass or slow down to let him pass? In any case, they were racing for track position and Bourdais was defending his position. I really cannot see how this can develop into Bourdais being penalised.

This season has become seriously farcical from a spectator’s point of view. The latest judgment by FIA will further fuel speculation that FIA is really Ferrari’s ally in the championship race. If Massa should win this season, I really do not know what type of champion he will be viewed as. I believe Massa is innocent as he probably was not the person who initiated the investigation for the incident. However, he is definitely the beneficiary of many dubious decisions made by FIA this season.

In a shocking continuation to this season’s decision making, I really hope the GDPA or Toro Rosso will sit down and give FIA some serious feedback. This is not longer F1 racing if race results are artificially decided at the end of the race.

This is my response to this whole decision:

  3. Make way for a real car guys. I suppose the FIA also asked Hamilton th drive like a taxi driver to take Massa & co. out! The FIA introduced all these ridiculous rules to stop Ferrari’s winning all the time at the start and in the process turning F1 into Monopoly. Its only the dangerous incidents which make F1 exciting for the vultures. Hamilton is more suited to Nascar
