Sniffing Out Cancer

All human skin releases chemicals called “volatile organic compounds”, many of which do have a scent.

The researchers from the Monell Center used a technology called gas chromatography-mass spectrometry to identify their precise chemical composition.

This new technology is pretty neat as a non-invasive form of cancer detection. The gas chromatography technique employed is similar to those devices that sniffs out bomb material used at most airports.

I wonder if we can further develop this form of detection to detect lung cancer or sniffing out any possible ailments through our exhaled breath.
